Bulgaria Your Consumer Rights

Bulgaria, like other EU member states, is covered by EU Consumer Directives that have been put in place to give protection to consumers throughout the EU Member States. For more detail on these and what protection they give you please select 'Rights when buying in the EU'.


As well as EU Consumer Directives, some member states have additional laws and regulations that may give added consumer rights. Below is a list of additional legislation in the Bulgaria. Please see the various legislation below, however we would suggest that you contact us to confirm if this legislation would be applicable in your circumstances.



Law on Consumer Protection

The purpose of this law is to ensure the protection of the following basic rights of the consumers:

  • Right of information concerning goods and services.
  • Right of legal defence against risks of acquiring goods and services, which could endanger life, health and their property;
  • (amend. – SG 64/07, in force from 08.09.2007) Right of legal defence of their economic interests against acquiring goods and services because of misleading and prohibited comparative advertisements, unfair commercial practices and means of sale, unequal contractual conditions and the presentation of guarantees for the commodities;
  • Right of compensation for damages caused by a defect of commodity;
  • Right of access to court and out of court proceedings for settlement of consumers disputes;
  • Right of knowledge of issues related to their defence;

 



Tourism Act

The objective of the law is:
1. to provide conditions for development of tourism.
2. to introduce unified criteria for the practices of tourism;
3. to provide protection of the users of the tourist product;
4. to determine the rights and the obligations of consumers using tourism services.

 



Law on the Electronic Commerce

This Law regulates public relations which are connected with carrying out electronic commerce.

 



Law on Distance Provision of Financial Services

This Law covers the requirements concerning distance provision of financial services.
The Law provides security for consumers using financial services at a distance.
