OMIC Municipal Consumer Information Offices

The Municipal Consumer Information Offices is a facility of the Trade and Consumer Services Department of the Barcelona City Council. Its mission is to assist consumers and product/service users in the defence of their rights by providing them with the relevant information, advice and regulations.
The OMIC is a municipal service offering free, direct attention for all citizens wishing to obtain information regarding any problems which may affect them as consumers.
The OMIC of the Barcelona city council was approved in 1983 and was opened under the name of SIDEC (Consumer Information, Protection and Education Service).
The MCIO offers the following services:
Personalised query service.
Analysis and processing of denouncements, complaints and claims.
Mediation between parties for resolution of certain issues.
Consumer information and orientation campaigns.
Editing of informative documents, such as Consumer Advice.
Technical documentation.
Archive for legislation and standards.
Collaboration with the Consumers' Arbitration Board.
Collaboration with consumer associations.
Supported by the Municipal Consumers' Board.
Purpose
a) Inform consumers and provide them with guidance relating to the exercise of their rights.
b) Attend to consumer claims and complaints.
c) Consumer education and training.
