Financial Supervisory Committee (Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier- CSSF)
The Financial Supervisor Committee (Commission de Surveillance du Secteur Financier) is the authority for the supervision of credit institutions, other professionals in the financial sector, mutual funds and pension funds. It also has oversight of financial asset markets.
The objectives of supervision exercised by the CSSF to the financial firms are as follows:
- promote policy consistent with regulatory requirements
- protect the financial stability of companies and supervised financial sector as a whole
- enhance the quality of risk management.
The CSSF shall examine any request from companies or individuals wishing to settle in Luxembourg to carry out a financial activity and requiring the approval of Minister of Treasury and Budget.
It operates solely in the public interest, to ensure the implementation and enforcement of laws and regulations concerning the financial sector and ensure the implementation of international conventions and European directives in the areas falling under its jurisdiction.
