EPKAS Consumer's Protection Union of Serres
The Consumers' Protection Union of Serres was founded in 1997 and is a local politically independent, non-profit organisation based in the Prefecture of Serres (about 200,000 inhabitants), Northern Greece and it has about 600 members. It has its own weekly telecast in a local TV station. The organisation also publishes a newspaper every 3 months and publishes books on consumer matters. EPKAS participates as the alternate member in Greece's National Consumer Council.
The Consumer Protection Union works in:
1. Informing and educating consumers about the consumer issues.
2. Consumer health, security and economic interests.
3. Ensuring that consumer's rights are represented in bodies that decide on matters affecting them, such as the National Consumer Council, the E.F.E.T. and the conciliation commission.
The EPKAS protects not only consumers but also the rights of suppliers from unfair competition.
EPKAS is a membership organisation.
